Very special episode of Shanty Town right here - featuring not one, not two, but three great selectors alongside me on this night. The basic theme of this throwdown: covers. Reggae covers of R&B, pop, folk, and country tunes from all different eras .
With this theme, (especially within DJ Homesick's set) you understand the influence of American music on early reggae and rocksteady, as well as seeing that dynamic reversed later in time with the birth of hip-hop and the transformation of its Jamaican counterpart, dancehall.
Homesick sets a great tone by playing the original tune and artist, followed by the reggae artist's version. A lot of good surprises were thrown into that segment as well. Sweet V shows us reggae can be just as soulful as R&B, funk, or disco. JonnyGoFigure goes manic and finishes up the show big - we actually went into overtime with him, so we have 20 extra minutes in this archive that was never aired on the live stream.
Unfortunately, no tracklist is available for this one. There were way too many songs to name, but most of them will be easy to identify if you're a true music lover.
